Pinsperations

I know every woman, mom, teacher, cook, crafter, etc. has been on Pinterest and if you haven't then you should it is awesome!!! With every pin there is an idea that takes place in your mind, you think to yourself I can do that, as if you have the time....lol.

I know I don't, however there are rare occasions when grandparents take the kids and my husband goes golfing,  the house work and laundry are done and dinner is taken care of that I can escape and tackle a project or two. Here are some of those times.

Pinsperation #1 Old Door Headboard

I was inspired by this picture I found on Pinterest (above) of an old door that was turned into a headboard.

I recently found a couple of old doors at my local St. Vincent DePaul Store for $5 a piece!!  This idea took right away with me since becoming a mom I have really put a lot of energy into making my bedroom into an extra cozy retreat. Not only did I like the look of the old door as a headboard, I also liked the price!! I have been recently pricing actual King Sized headboards and could not find any cheaper than $300, so the $5 price tag was just PERFECT for me and my oh-so small bedroom reno budget!!

Now unfortunately I have lost my before photos of the door, but you can image it was just a plain white door.

Here is what I did:

STEP 1- I cleaned the door off - Old doors tend to be a little dirty

STEP 2- I painted the door light blue using old Interior paint that was leftover from when I painted my bathroom. I let that dry completely.

STEP 3 - I took Elmer's Glue and a paint brush and brushed the glue onto the door.

STEP 4- I waited until the glue was "TACKY" and then I painted my door white. I mixed a little of  my bedroom wall color into the white so it would blend. Looking back I wish I would have just used the white. I feel like mixing the wall color in doesn't make the headboard "POP" as much as I would have liked.

Now I didn't get as fancy as the picture above by adding the molding to the door, or the legs, I just left mine as is. To attach the door, I just found the studs in the wall and screwed the door directly to it.

That's It - Here is the Final Result

I hope this inspires you to try your Pinsperation ideas!!  Happy crafting!!
